Project Status: August 2008 - Currently underway.  In process of manning up.

August 2007 - NEW INFORMATION

KCP&L & Kiewit Industries tells us the initial hire for a small crew will be Fall / Winter 2007.  Increased manpower will come in Spring / Summer 2008.

On site now:  ECA performing duct bank work - manpower is at approximately 10 - 12 men.  RF Fisher putting in temporary power - manpower is at approximately 10 - 15 men.  Staco has a small crew doing data com work.

May 2007

  • Preparing to begin setting steel later this month. 
  • Don't anticipate job calls coming in for at least a couple more months.

February 2007

  • Stack was completed January 6, 2007.  Should start putting liner in mid to late March 2007.
  • Site preparation is underway and seems to be moving forward at a pretty good rate, with slight delays due to inclement weather.
  • Kissick Construction is still working on foundations and they are currently forming foundations in the pulverizer bay area.
  • Working on Unit 1, SCR pilings now and the steel for this unit should commence being set June 1, 2007.
  • Burns & McDonnell is about 40% complete on engineering for the entire job.
  • August 15th, release date for all steel to be set on boiler.
  • Turbine steel to arrive in Fall 2007 - set November 2007.
  • Turbine contractor is Toshiba.  Turbine is to be onsite May 1, 2008.
  • ECA has been awarded an underground package on this project.

October 2006 - Project is still on schedule.  Chimney stack has been awarded to Bordner Technical Services out of Pennsylvania.  Work on stack should start 10/16/06.  Still looking at man-up starting late March 2007.

September 2006 - Four contracts have been let:

1)      Kissick Construction will be performing site work including pilings and chimney/stack foundation.  Capital Electric is doing some minor associated work  for Kissick when needed.

2)      Pullman Power was award the chimney/stack award.  It will be built under the National Stack and Chimney agreement addendum of the NMABronder Technical Services out of Pennsylvania will be doing the electrical on the stack.  They are an IBEW contractor and plan to utilize LU 124 manpower.  It will be a small crew of 1 to 4 men with possible 3 shifts on 5 days.  Work scheduled to start on October 16th.  It is a slip form stack.

3)      Liston Clark to perform dirt work on parking lots and lay down yards starting very soon.

4)      Inner Fab will be the “go to” contractor on site to perform undefined work that may have been left out of initial planning.

July 2006 - Let this fall will be the electrical packages including some underground, power, parking lot lighting and site camp and office construction projects.
          The bulk of the electrical project will commence Spring 2007, as iron goes up for the boiler and structure. At the peak of construction, there will be 1,200 – 1,400 construction workers on the project. This should occur in 2008. This number of construction workers will be required for the project until the unit comes online in June 2010.
          Currently KCP&L is meeting with the Business Managers on a monthly basis.  This should continue through the duration of the project.
