IBEW Local 124 is currently looking for new applicants for the Voice / Data / Video / Security Apprenticeship. Please call the training center at (816) 942-3242 for more information.

Dear VDVS Brothers and Sisters,

It’s important that you notify me if you have taken or plan on taking a BICSI or NICET exam in the near future. Per the new contract you are entitled to reimbursement for the successful passing of any certification that is required in the agreement. Please give me a call so I can get the required documentation in place. Many of these exams can be costly so don’t pass up an opportunity to be reimbursed.

I would also like to let everyone know that while we are currently experiencing a slow period in employment, there are other locals that may potentially have work. While it is sometimes difficult to go on the road it is also a blessing to be able to keep a solid income while keeping your benefit eligibility healthy. Please contact me if you’re interested in working out of another local.

I’d like to remind everyone that it is an election year for our nation, and our Local. I urge you to educate yourself on the policies, agendas, and voting records of the many politicians that will be coming your way. I urge you to stay involved in the democratic process, although it is sometimes frustrating. The politicians of this nation, state, and local municipalities can truly affect organized labors’ ability to exist in this challenging market and ultimately affect your ability to earn a fair wage.

The VDVS unit and the local will also be going though an election cycle. The second elections for the VDVS unit will be taking place in June of 2008 with nominations taking place in May. If you have any interest in the elected positions of this unit please get involved, ask questions, and help shape the future of local 124 and the VDVS unit.
