RE:             UPCOMING SHORT TERM CALLS

Beginning November 20, 2006, and with the prospect of continuing into January, 2007, we anticipate between one hundred (100) and one hundred fifty (150) short term calls for work at the General Motors plant in Fairfax, the Ford plant in Claycomo, the glass plant in Springhill, Kansas and the Griffin Wheel plant in Kansas City, Kansas.  (According to the terms of our Inside Agreement, a short term call is one of no more than fourteen consecutive days duration without regard to the actual number of hours worked within the fourteen-day period.)  When we last filled short term calls to the auto plants this past summer, there was a great deal of inefficiency in getting the calls filled. In an effort to address this problem, we are going to administer these upcoming short term call referrals in a different manner pursuant to an experimental agreement with NECA.  The following is the procedure that will apply to short term calls for these projects only!

Please be advised that short term calls for the projects identified above will be offered to registrants on a “Day Book” basis.  By way of explanation, this means that in order to be offered one of these calls an individual must be not only registered on the out-of-work list but also be physically present at the union hall at the time that the call is filled. These calls will be offered to those present at the hall in the order that their names appear on the out-of-work list.  No telephone calls will be made by dispatchers in an effort to fill these short term jobs unless and until the “Day Book” procedure, as described above, has been exhausted.

As stated above, we anticipate that the initial calls will commence on November 20, 2006.  More specific information will be posted on the local union’s website (ibewlocal124.org) and the code-a-phone (816-942-7508) as the actual calls are received.
